COMMON QUESTIONS
HOW IS IT
MADE?
The majority of this studio's commissions & projects are a
synthesis of traditional art skills & contemporary fabrication using computer
technologies streamlined from design to fabrication. Specialized software was developed by
the artist to use along with other effective software for art, manufacturing, architecture
& engineering. Instead of putting lots of little elegant components together,
this is infact the reverse. Various materials are
laced, layered, laminated & formed to create the best client solution.
THINK ABOUT
IT: Blacksmiths - & more importantly the hammer - have been replaced by a new
technology processes, .dxf, IGES, STEP & .stl files that have
not been applied to architecture with the same aesthetic potential or more of craft
developed over centuries & millenia. Machines continue to replace hand
craft. Clients include normal people, entertainment, government agencies, architects
& contractors.
ESTIMATES
The studio will provide an initial free estimate based on accurate client information
provided for materials & square footage of overall surface scope.
CONTRACTS
& PAYMENT
The studio uses contracts based on digital media applied to design &
build. Two phase contracts ~ one each for the Design & Fabrication phases are used for each
commission.

UPDATE
1997 - 2007: July 21, 2007 marks my first 10 year anniversary of ''Making
Machines Sing.''
Wiith landmarks in art & technology. and as a single proprietor design studio with 3
top job awards from the National Ornamental & Miscellaneous Metals Association,
it was my double honor to have my father with me at the 2007 NOMMA awards banquet this
year in Destin Fl when I received my
third Ernest Wiemann top job. My initial instinct back in 1997 &
subsequent decade long exploration of metals has branched in other technologies that
dovetail as a basis of art for architecture. Conventional chemical milling,
imaging of concrete, custom disposable formwork, computer fabricated stone & mosaic
technologies, woven metals, plastic fabrication, in addition to blacksmithing via modern
.dxf dependent technologies - lasers, waterjet, plasma, hi-definition plasma, oxy fuel
& routers. The expertise in new technologies as art has garnered international
lectures & coverage in the architectural press. I have always felt that what I
do is not abstract rocket science - but is the natural flow of hi engineering technology
made practical & accessible as artist media.
This year - I learned to weld (and tailor goatskin
welding gloves to fit my smaller hands), and now do much of my own ''hands on'' dirty
work for local commissions. My hi-tech approach & experience of metal work is
now informed, all around and complete. My studio vision has branched,
grown & prospered in direct response to unique people & projects, whose
search of a personal vision for architecture includes design that inspires & endures.
New ideas have been introduced - The new work in computer fabricated mosaics is a
pleasing & colorful bridge back into my education in surface / textile design. I
am also introducing a small line of elegant gates to be assembled & marketed by other
quality ornamental metal businesses on a special order basis.
If what you have seen here, inspires your project or
architecture, please contact me regarding your project needs. My goal has been
and still is, to put elegant curves back into architecture seemlessly & more
affordably. The commissions are steeped in historic architectural or natural
reference - but always forward looking.

THE
STUDIO WORKS DIRECTLY WITH A CLIENT OR THROUGH THEIR AUTHORIZED AGENT - ARCHITECTS, DESIGN
PROFESSIONALS OR CONTRACTORS - Either from Sketches or Verbally Expressed Ideas.
Contact the studio Information Request about your project
ideas & an estimate. The studio creates original designs in metal, ceramic
and/or cement to define a project's full value - from aesthetics to include the
client's bottom line. If you have made it to this page in the website - most
certainly, you have seen something that inspired you. The artist's work is not in
stores or galleries. It is created in response to direct client requests. In
many cases, new processes & specifications have been created or improvised to
implement a clients unique vision within the evolving design & build enviroment.
YOUR
DESIGN OR ''CUSTOM'' The studio approach, unique skills &
understanding of state of the industry manufacturing processes & tradtional
fabrication practices - allows for cost effective truly custom work. Creating intact
finished components, the studio creates thru a design process based on its ability
to draw with over 30 years of experience, creating custom solutions. Over the
last decade within this specific niche design practice, alliances within a wide
range of manufacturing specialties has created a vast network of qualified vendors to
regionally manufacture projects both domestically & internationally.
ALL
COMMISSION WORK & SYSTEMS ARE CUSTOM DESIGNED TO SPECIFIC SITE CONDITIONS &
CLIENT DESIGN CRITERIA, ENGINEERED FOR QUALITY, & CUSTOM FABRICATED OR
MANUFACTURING.
COPYRIGHT The studio creates & maintains exclusively copyrighted design
or artwork. It also respects the intellectual property of other designers or
firms. All of the artists copryighted work is covered by the same laws
protecting site specific architectural design projects. Though design is an
integral part of the process, the client is purchasing only finished art fabrications as
functional component systems.
LARGER REPETITIVE PROJECTS ARE MORE COST EFFECTIVE WITH
25% LICENSING FEE STRUCTURE & COMPETITIVE BIDS.
ASSEMBLY
& INSTALLATIONS ARE SIMPLE & EASY For projects done
in collaboration - Welding, assembly & installations are designed for simplicity.
All installations are done by lisenced contractors. Necessary
templates, patterns & installation details / drawings are included as needed to
assist skilled craftsman & lisenced contractors collaborators. This assures all
projects are completed with ease.
TECHNICAL SUPPORT & PROGRAMMING FILES If you are a job
shop in need of technical support or have materials consulting needs - please call the
studio and ask for Eileen. The number is 1(310) 548-4914, hours are PST 6am - 4pm.
OTHER MATERIALS & MEDIA: Bronze or stainless
steel are available in addition to ceramic, stone production cladding, flooring, surfaces
and custom formwork. The fabrication cost might be higher or lower because of
material costs & a somewhat restricted manufacturing envelope. Potential
materials range from custom veneers or flooring in wood, stone or metals, to
mold tooling created for RTV rubber concrete forms, ceramic mosaic systems either
borders or murals, custom architectural cladding - ceramic & metal systems, direct
disposable EPS form inserts, paper forms. Anything that is the most useful approach
to an aesthetic project solution.
